ABOUT US

Harmonee 2012 EOOD is a Bulgarian company engaged in the modernization and expansion of the zinc production of the former Lead-Zinc Complex in Kardjali, southeastern Bulgaria.

The project will be developed in two phases.

First phase envisions the construction and operation of a Waelz facility for recovery of valuable components from Zn-bearing materials.

During the Second phase the Zinc smelter will be modernized and the Waelz facility will be included in its production process, applying the principles of the circular economy.

WAELZ FACILITY

The Waelz facility processes zinc compounds resulting in an end product zinc oxide, which is widely used as a raw material in various productions, including the Zinc smelter.

The facility will operate in compliance with the highest ecological, health and safety standards.

Strategically located in close proximity to major southeastern ports in Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey and possessing well established local rail and road network, the facility is with strategic location.

NEW ZINC SMELTER

The modernization and expansion of the new zinc smelter in Kardjali includes construction of new process buildings and full replacement of the equipment and facilities necessary for the commissioning of a new contemporary smelter for zinc production for Bulgaria and the Balkans.

The facility will utilize a Roast-leach-electrowin process for zinc production, for operation in compliance with the highest ecological, health and safety standards.

HISTORY OF THE PLANT

The former state owned Lead-Zinc Complex (LZC) situated in the town of Kardjali  began its production activity on 5 September 1955.

During that time production capacity equaled to 5,000 tones of zinc ingots and 7,000 tones of sulphuric acid annually.

In 1956 LZC commenced lead production with annual capacity of 8,000 tones.

During 1956-1990s LZC was one of the leading and most developed producers of zinc and lead in Bulgaria.

In 1998 the privatization of LZC began.. In 2013 bankruptcy procedure was initiated against LZC.

In 2012-2013 the assets of the former LZC were acquired by Harmonee 2012 EOOD who has taken up an initiative to modernize the new Zinc Smelter.
